Inter Community Committee
Inter-Community Relations Committee
Minutes, July 11, 2007 Chairman Jeanne Blackman called the meeting to order at 3:10 p.m.
The first item discussed was the flood plain issue. We still do not know the
status of the new FEMA map. Both the city and county are contesting this map.
Roger Reese and Jean Rodeman will meet with the city contact person and
possibly the county person.
Treeline median landscaping has not been done. According to Don DeBerry of
DOT for county, it may not be done for some time because of finances.
The ugly bus stop bench in front of our entrance is to be removed soon.
The two parcels south of SweetBay on Treeline have not changed hands. These
are the two that may be designated as a hotel and an assisted living facility and
will back up to Colonial CC Drive all the way to the Fire House. The Committee
is watching these parcels very closely.
New businesses are coming to our area. The Forum will have a Target, Best
Buy, Books-A-Million, Petco, First Community Bank, McDonald’s and a
retail/office complex. With B.J’s on Six Mile Cypress, will be Starbuck’s, Beall’s,
Office Max and Pet Smart. South of Lowe’s will be a Kohl’s. SweetBay will
have additional tenants but not known at this time. East of SweetBay in
Arborgate, Walgreen’s is the only known tenant. This comes from Councilman
Leonardo’s office.
Several residents have commented on the drainage lake behind SweetBay. It
hasn’t been mowed or new plantings have not been added around the lake as
had been indicated. Jeanne has a call in to the city about this.
Concerning highway construction, DOT indicated that the widening of Colonial
won’t begin until Spring, 2008 due to cutbacks and funding. Six Mile Cypress
widening will begin January, 2008.
This committee is planning to work on the following new issues as well as the
current ones:
•
Develop relationship with County Commissioners.
•
Develop relationships with Botanical Lakes and Plantation. (We are
already working with Pelican Preserve and Heritage Palms.
The next meeting will be September 12, 2007. The August meeting was
cancelled because committee members will be away.
Meeting adjourned.
